On October 27, students arrived to Chugiak High School dressed either in their Halloween costumes or class color best.  At the end of the day, students were herded into the gym for a pep-assembly.

The assembly began like most do, with a recognition of all the participants in the fall sports.  All athletes were then given candy leis made by the student council.  Following this, the Mustang varsity cheerleaders performed a competition piece.  The classes then all participated in a Chugiak fight song sing-along to heighten the school spirit.

Then came the highly anticipated culmination of the Dare to Care fundraiser at Chugiak High School.  Dare to Care is a non-profit which facilitates private, corporate and individual funding to provide breakfast and lunch opportunities to children-in-need identified by the school district.  This particular fundraiser was a coin drive in which a few staff members had jugs labeled with their names located in the library, the three staff members with the most amount of money would receive pies in the face at the pep assembly. The three lucky staff members were Kathie Steele, David Kinder and Rick Volk, with Brian Mason chivalrously taking Volk’s place in the lineup.

The final event tuned in on the friendly competition between classes.  It involved representatives from each class (as well as faculty) having balloons tied to their ankles, each trying to pop the other competing classes’ balloons.  The game ended in a match up between the freshmen and the seniors with the seniors ultimately coming out on top.

The pep-assembly proved to be an exciting portion in an otherwise boring Tuesday.  Even the most un-spirited of CHS students enjoyed the candy and festivities.
