The Grandview Baptist Church youth group has chosen to volunteer their time once a month to the community by serving at the local food bank.
“I think that the youth volunteering in our community at the Food bank can definitely make an impact,” said Raven Graham, director of the Girls Ministry at Grandview.
Grandview’s youth group said they will be serving once a month on Sunday afternoons for four hours. Lunch will be provided at the church. They are hoping to be a good example to their fellow peers.
The group will not find out what they will be doing until they get to the food bank so they are walking into this community service completely unaware of the tasks they’ll be given. So hopefully there isn’t anything hiding in the closet at the food bank.
“I chose to volunteer my time because I want to give back to my community as well as make an impact on the people who surround me in day to day life,” said Joe Meadows, one of the youth who will be volunteering his time to the Food Bank.
With every pound and a half of food donated to this charity it can provide a meal for a hungry Alaskan. Local drop off locations include the Accurate Import Center, as well as the Allen and Peterson Cooking and Appliance Center.
“I think there will be a great deal of impact with people my age showing that they actually do care and volunteering for a local cause like this is a great message to send out to fellow students,” said Meadows.
When asked what activities they would be performing, Mike Blakenly, Grandview’s youth pastor said,“ Who knows! We don’t find out what we are going to do until we get there.”
