Restaurant review: Dish

My recent adventure into finding a new and exciting place to eat ended with my friends and me enjoying Japanese food at Dish, a self proclaimed sushi bar and Japanese restaurant.

The atmosphere was very pleasant, with the glow from the orange dining-room lights lightly illuminating the long hard wood tables and the red decor.  Right near our table was a jumbo sized LCD TV tuned to ESPN, for those who would want to enjoy some football with their sushi.

Now the prices were rather expensive, so it definitely should not be the go-to place for a jobless student, but every now and then, everyone deserves to treat themselves, right?

The first part of the menu was separated into big dishes and small dishes, for those who wanted to choose their portion size. The small dishes ranged in price from $5 to $12, while the big dishes had a price range from $15 to $23. The next part of the menu was dedicated to noodles and prices ranged from $12 to $19. Fried rice meals ranged from $15 to $19.  The sushi portion of the menu was very diverse, with the option of picking and choosing the types of rolls. They had pre-arranged combinations from $18 to $28. They also had a dessert section, which included banana spring rolls, ice cream tempura and oreo tempura, all ranging from $4 to $8.

My dinner companions and I were very curious to try one of the sweet tempuras, but after eating our main courses, we were too full to even think about dessert.  For my main course, I ordered the big-dish sesame chicken for $16, which came with soup, salad and rice. The salad that came with my meal wasn’t my favorite; the dressing was a little too citrusy for my taste; however, the miso soup was very rewarding. My sesame chicken was very good, a lot less sweet than a lot of the sesame chicken dishes I have ordered in the past, and the big portion made your money go a long way.   I sampled my friends’ teriyaki chicken and noodle dishes and found them to be equally satisfactory.

Dish is located at 639 West International Airport Rd, and is open Monday through Thursday from 11 am to 10 pm, Friday from 11 am to 11 pm and weekends from 4 pm to 11 pm
