It’s wintertime again and everyone needs to be thinking safety.
When you are out driving or partying with your friends, there are many things you can do to be safe this winter. When you are out driving, it’s important to use your blinkers and headlights. Without those headlights you won’t be able to tell if you are about to hit a moose or another car and vice versa.
When you are out partying and having fun with your friends, think responsibly; don’t use bad judgment. If you attend a party with friends that are 21 or over, make sure there are designated drivers. The only thing more dangerous than icy roads is driving impaired on those slick winter roads.
If you start sliding or skidding while driving this winter, remain calm and don’t freak out! Keep both hands on the wheel and remember to steer into the skid.
For those of you who enjoy snowmobiling, you should always think first before you act. Last winter, 10 people died in snowmobile accidents, and 70 percent of snowmobile deaths were alcohol or drug related, so wear your helmet and ride safely.
Finally, here are five safety tips that will help you have a fun and safe winter this year: Check your lights; Never walk outside in the dark alone; Wear cleats when walking outside; Always have studded snow tires when driving; and to plug in your vehicle when it’s 20 degrees or below.
