The Chugiak Drama, Debate and Forensics team received first place in the 4A schools dvision at the state tournament on March 4, 5 and 6 by winning first place in both debate and forensics sweeps.
Individual results from the state tournament:
Paul Gabrys: 3rd in Policy Debate, 1st in Pantomime, 2nd in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking and 2nd in Policy Debate speaker points
Sam Harris: 3rd in Lincoln Douglas Debate and 4th in Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking
Sarah Elton: 4th in Public Forum Debate and 1st in pantomime
Sarah Long: 3rd place in Solo Acting
Meg Mielke: 3rd in Policy Debate, 1st in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, 2nd in Original Oration and 1st in Policy Debate speaker points
Andrea Sherman: 4th in Public Forum Debate and 5h in Public Forum Debate speaker points
David Smith: 1st in Lincoln Douglas Debate and 3rd in Extemporaneous Commentary
Esther Smith: 1st in Lincoln Douglas Debate, 1st in Extemporaneous Commentary, 3rd in Congressional Debate and 1st in Lincoln Douglas Debate speaker points.
At this tournament Esther Smith, Meg Mielke and Paul Gabrys qualified for the National Forensic League National Tournament to be held in Kansas City Missouri in June.
To raise money for this national tournament, the Chugiak High School Drama, Debate and Forensics team will be holding the second annual DDF Showcase on March 27 at 7pm in the Steve Primis Auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door for $7 and all proceeds will go toward offetting attendance costs of nationals.
