People use profanity because they think it gves them a certain maturity, too. I've heard curse words inserted into conversation where there's absoutely no need for them. They're not even angry- just trying to seem adult. In the end it just sounds idiotic.

I found this article very biased. I was suprized how it made pageants seem focused on appearance only. Congrats to Kara on her monetary win, however thats not what pageants are about at all. I have done this Miss Bear Paw pageant, The Natuonal American Miss national pageant in California and am the NAM Junior Teen represenative. Pageants are about the things you can learn and experiance. Public speaking is learned from personal introduction and onstage question, Interview skills are gained from the interview portion. In talent, the girls are encouraged to gain confidence onstage while being able to perform an art form which encourages healthy activities in the community. The girls in Miss America system (which Miss Chugiak/Eagle River and Miss Forget Me Not are a part of) Requires the girls to have a platform, which is a cause or orginization the girls research and support.part of) Formal wear shows that appearance is important but it certainly is not everything. A large portion of formal wear is judged by how confident the girls are onstage, whether their smile is genuine, poise, grace posture and the like. Fitness competitions, casualwear, alaskawear and other competitions which vary per pageant also have morals to teach. Pageantry in general is a great thing to be involved in even if you are not drop dead gorgeous or look like a barbie with fake hair, nails, tan or eyelashes.

I think you raise some very interesting points in this article, and I think we should all take some time to appreciate the classics. Maybe we could even make it a national holiday to sit around and listen to the Beatles while studying Picasso's works!
